2023.11.14 | Community Outreach/Food Distribution with BirdSeed Collective at the Globeville Center | Denver, CO
Recently, while traveling through Colorado, I started documenting the efforts of Anthony Garcia Sr. and the BirdSeed Collective. This Denver-based organization integrates artistic creation with socioeconomic improvement through public art and community support initiatives. The organization was founded as a joint venture between artists Anthony Garcia Sr., Michael Broberg, and musician Robin Walker in 2009 and attained 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 2015.
One of their critical efforts in meeting the needs of local under-resourced communities is a weekly food distribution program that provides healthy food to hundreds of individuals and families. Recent demographic shifts, particularly surges in the Venezuelan immigrant population, have posed challenges in meeting the growing demand. With the assistance of Denver Food Rescue, Freshpack Produce, Rainbo Breads, Food Bank of the Rockies, and ACTS Food Bank, BirdSeed Collective remains steadfast in its commitment to providing essential support to those in need.
